| The current legislation on visas for *commercial yacht crewmembers and their passengers will be extended to December 31, 2008. This policy encourages the use of Seamen’s Discharge Books and guarantees provided by local ships agent, making it simpler for crew to travel to and from the island. In September a meeting will be held by the St Maarten Marine Trades Association (SMMTA) board, St. Maarten yacht agents and various local government Immigration and Justice officials to evaluate the current policy....more |
| Coinciding with Falmouth Week, the inaugural Pendennis Cup kicked off on Monday having attracted a list of prestigious competitors including some of the grande dames of the yachting world; Mariette, Mariquita, Altair and Adix among others.
Despite the damp weather moods were buoyant with many old friends meeting on the pontoon. The hardened crowd were not put off by the strong winds either with several yachts racing on Tuesday despite gusts of over 25 knots. Mariette had the misfortune of breaking her gaff and Altair stormed ahead for a triumphant win.
